Arcadia Virtual Reality Lounge was inspired by an admiration for the powers of virtual reality, combined with the idea of an all-around stellar experience.
Before starting Arcadia, we enjoyed virtual reality experiences whenever we had the chance. It was a new and exciting way to have fun; more like laser tag or paintball than traditional gaming. While we loved the experience, we didn’t love that is wasn’t available in Kelowna. We also began thinking up ideas that could make the experience even better.
That’s when we decided to open Arcadia Virtual Reality lounge in Kelowna in 2017. We wanted to make virtual reality available to others, and share our ideas with all of you.
Our vision for Arcadia was that it would be an incredible, one-of-a-kind experience from the minute you walk through the doors, to the minute you walk out. Come visit Arcadia Virtual Reality lounge in Kelowna and let us know how we did!
Imagine being transported into another world by simply putting on a headset. You look around to see a reality that’s not physically there, but looks and feels like it is. You may be tempted to reach out and touch things that don’t actually exist.
That’s what virtual reality is like – and while the science behind VR is a lot more complicated, it’s extremely simple to use.
Advanced computer systems, comfortable headsets, and handheld controllers are used to immerse you in a virtual world. You may end up soaring around the globe, swimming with whales, or even fighting alien invaders with laser guns. How many of your friends can say they’ve done that?
That’s what we thought.
The truth is, to fully understand what VR feels like, you have to try it. If you can experience it for the first time without saying “wow!”, we’ll give you ten bucks (not really, but we will be pretty surprised).
The technical stuff
this is what makes it all tick
We knew that in order to provide the best experience, we needed the best technology. That’s why we use HTC Vive headsets paired with the best in computer components. Our booths are all individually powered with Intel i7 processors for the best performance, an entire terabyte of solid-state disk space for ludicrous game loading capabilities, and a 1080ti graphics processor unit, designed to make your experience at our facility as vivid and lifelike as possible. We wanted to push the envelope even more with our large booth, so we added a second graphics card in Scalable Link Interface configuration, squeezing out as much computational power as we can muster.
We also use SynthesisVR as our management software in our Arcadia Virtual Reality Lounge in Kelowna, which makes it easy to navigate the VR system and choose games. It also offers a quick and simple tutorial on how to use the system and controls, so you can spend less time learning and more time playing.
What is virtual reality?
Virtual reality, or VR, uses different technologies like headsets to immerse the user in an interactive virtual world that feels almost real. It's been described as "hijacking your senses". Trippy, right?
Are there any age restrictions at Arcadia?
You must be at least 7 years old to attend a session, and anyone under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Certain games also have age restrictions. Our Hyper Reality experience has a minimum age of 12 years old to participate.
Are there snacks?
Yes, we have coffee, soda pop, energy drinks, chips, candy and light snacks available in the front lounge. We allow outside food to be brought in for parties (bring food and a birthday cake from home and/or order pizza to the party room)
What if I’m not really a gamer?
No gaming experience? No problem! VR is more of a fun experience (like laser tag or paintball) than just video gaming. You are immersed into the action and it can be a workout if you choose certain games. Hyper Reality booths allow up to 3 people to play the same game together! There’s really something for everyone. Parents appreciate our educational experiences and adults like travelling to other places or times in History. You can walk art galleries like The Louvre... or visit "anywhere" on Google Earth.
What type of equipment is used at Arcadia?
We use HTC Vive headsets and high end computers to give you the best virtual reality experience possible. We are constantly upgrading technology and our manager creates hyper reality games. There are race car simulators with full motion. Want the full scoop? Check out our facility.
Can I host a party here?
Yes, in fact, we’d love it if you did! We offer special group rates which you can learn more about here, and have a party room that’s perfect for post-game-playing celebrations.
Could VR be bad for me?
For most people, VR is completely safe. However, if you have any pre-existing conditions such as heart problems, epilepsy, anxiety or PTSD, or are pregnant or elderly, you should consult with your physician first.
What are the potential side effects?
The main side effect is becoming a tad addicted, but some people may also experience motion sickness or uneasiness during the VR experience. If you’re experiencing any issues during play, it’s easy to stop the session and seek out a staff member for assistance.
Can I play with my friends?
Absolutely! We have the Hyper Reality booth where 3 people can play together, the Driving Simulators where you can race each other and there are also many multi-player games in our standard booths that allow you to play together in the virtual world!
How much does it cost?
