ABOUT ARCADIA

Arcadia Virtual Reality Lounge was inspired by an admiration for the powers of virtual reality, combined with the idea of an all-around stellar experience.

Before starting Arcadia, we enjoyed virtual reality experiences whenever we had the chance. It was a new and exciting way to have fun; more like laser tag or paintball than traditional gaming. While we loved the experience, we didn’t love that is wasn’t available in Kelowna. We also began thinking up ideas that could make the experience even better.

That’s when we decided to open Arcadia in 2017. We wanted to make virtual reality available to others, and share our ideas with all of you.

Our vision for Arcadia was that it would be an incredible, one-of-a-kind experience from the minute you walk through the doors, to the minute you walk out. Come visit us and let us know how we did!

Imagine being transported into another world by simply putting on a headset. You look around to see a reality that’s not physically there, but looks and feels like it is. You may be tempted to try reach out and touch things that don’t actually exist.

That’s what virtual reality is like – and while the science behind VR is a lot more complicated, it’s extremely simple to use.

Advanced computer systems, comfortable headsets, and handheld controllers are used to immerse you in a virtual world. You may end up soaring around the globe, swimming with whales, or even fighting alien invaders with laser guns. How many of your friends can say they’ve done that?

That’s what we thought.

The truth is, to fully understand what VR feels like, you have to try it. If you can experience it for the first time without saying “wow!”, we’ll give you ten bucks (not really, but we will be pretty surprised).

The technical stuff
this is what makes it all tick

We knew that in order to provide the best experience, we needed the best technology. That’s why we use HTC Vive headsets paired with the best in computer components. Our booths are all individually powered with Intel i7 processors for the best performance, an entire terabyte of solid-state disk space for ludicrous game loading capabilities, and a 1080ti graphics processor unit, designed to make your experience at our facility as vivid and lifelike as possible. We wanted to push the envelope even more with our large booth, so we added a second graphics card in Scalable Link Interface configuration, squeezing out as much computational power as we can muster.

We also use SynthesisVR as our management software, which makes it easy to navigate the VR system and choose games. It also offers a quick and simple tutorial on how to use the system and controls, so you can spend less time learning and more time playing.

What is virtual reality?

Virtual reality, or VR, uses different technologies like headsets to immerse the user in an interactive virtual world that feels almost real. Trippy, right?

Are there any age restrictions at Arcadia?

You must be at least 7 years old to attend a session, and anyone under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Certain games also have age restrictions.

Is Arcadia safe?

Yes, as safe as VR can be! We have safety measures put in place to avoid any potential injuries or mishaps. For more information, visit our Facilities page.

Are there snacks?

Yes, we have concession snacks like pop, chips and candybars available in the front lounge

Can I bring my own food?

We ask that outside food is not brought in (except for party business!) as we wish to keep a clean and attractive space for all of our guests.

What if I’m not really a gamer?

No gaming experience? No problem! We like to think of VR as more of a fun experience like laser tag or paintball than just gaming. With so many games and experiences to choose from, there’s really something for everyone.

What type of equipment is used at Arcadia?

We use HTC Vive headsets and high end computers to give you the best VR experience possible.

Can I host a party here?

Yes, in fact, we’d love it if you did! We offer special group rates which you can learn more about here, and have a party room that’s perfect for post-game-playing celebrations.

Could VR be bad for me?

For most people, VR is completely safe. However, if you have any pre-existing conditions such as heart problems, epilepsy, anxiety or PTSD, or are pregnant or elderly, you should consult with your physician first.

What are the potential side effects?

The main side effect is becoming a tad addicted, but some people may also experience motion sickness or uneasiness during the VR experience. If you’re experiencing any issues during play, it’s easy to stop the session and seek out a staff member for assistance.

Can I play with my friends?

Absolutely! While you can’t play together in the same physical booth for safety reasons, there are several games that allow you to play together in the virtual world through an online connection. You can play with people from all around the world!

How much does it cost?

Check out our Packages page for more information on pricing.

Do I have to book ahead, or are drop-ins welcome?

Drop-ins are welcome, but booking ahead is highly recommended to avoid potentially having to wait for a booth to become available.

What if I’ve never tried VR before?

No problem! We offer quick and easy tutorials to help you learn the ropes, and can help you choose a fun game or experience to get you started.
